The Howland Board of Education established the Peterson Memorial Fund in memory of a senior baseball star who died last month. Nearly $500 has been raised to improve the baseball field. donations should be made payable to the fund and sent to Board Clerk Mrs. Doris Pearce at the administration building on South Street.
Howland Township trustees will meet at 7 30 p m in the administration building meeting room on Thursday evening instead of the regular time.
The Howland Board of Education abandoned the special class for deaf blind students for this year citing hiring trouble. They released a $11 272 grant and will pursue a potential program next fall at Champion school while continuing the teacher search.
Kimberly D Orrio, a third grader at Howland Glen Elementary, wrote to President Ford asking for a visit. Ford replied he could not come due to a heavy schedule and thanked her for the invitation. The letter, signed by Ford, will be framed at the D Orrio home in Howland.
An 11 member committee was named by Howland trustees and school officials to study needs and plan a recreation program. They target land from the former Ernie Hall Airport and adjacent school areas, with funds from revenue sharing and potential federal aid. Members include Ford (chair), Alberini (secretary), and others, with meetings to discuss land use, facilities, and drainage. Ed Kutevac and Ed Ryser will advise on maps and property drainage.
Howland guidance department announces visiting representatives from higher learning will attend February 26 27 at Howland High School. An Art Institute of Pittsburgh speaker appears February 26 at 9 am. Career Exploration Programs serves all day February 28.
Three Howland district principals Larry Graber Randall Wilson and Robert Gribling attended the 17th annual Ohio Association of Elementary School Principals Professional Conference and Trade Show in Columbus. The event themed Principal For All Seasons featured speakers William B. Sacbe former Miss America Marilyn Van Derbur Dr S J Hayakawa and university educators with focus on motivation state politics staffing trends and math education.
The Howland Bandwagon will publish stories and pictures of any municipal candidate who visits the office with biographical details by March 25. Filing for the June 3 primaries closes Wednesday March 20.
The Niles Suburban Newspapers with Warren Auto Club hosts a tour party at Alberini's in Niles next Wednesday at 8 30 p m to discuss 15 day Hawaii garden tours leaving March 22 June 21 July 19 and Oct 11. Garden highlights include Kauai Foster Botanical Garden Oahu Hilo Maui and more. Free event refreshments served and attendees learn itinerary accommodations and garden details.
The Howland Board of Education approved a pupil suspension and expulsion policy aligning with recent court rulings. Superintendent James Wolfe said local procedures have been in place for three and a half years and are now formalized. The policy requires a hearing, witness presence during investigations, explained charges, student response, and prompt written notices to parents within 24 hours. If requested, a post separation hearing with an attorney can be arranged. expulsion procedures mirror suspension.
