Cortland Forms Community Band Promising First Rehearsal
Sixty four locals from Cortland Howland Brookfield Niles Warren Kinsman and Orangeville Pennsylvania registered for a community band initiative led by Jim Wooster and director Roger Harned. The group plans four concerts yearly with rehearsals at Lakeview Middle School at 7 pm on the first and fourth Wednesdays, next on Feb 23. open to players age beyond high school.

Howland High students teach Latin to younger pupils
Latin III students Maya Mahadevappa and Joanne Sudano from Howland High School visit Mrs. Ezzo's sixth grade class at North Road School to teach basics in three half hour lessons. They greet students with Latin phrases and cover conversational Latin, songs, mythology, Roman history, English word derivations, and even basic math in Latin.

The Howland force filed a year end report showing four homicides in 1982 including Dr. Richard Bower, 989 total criminal offenses down from 1981’s 1090, 643 adult and 70 juvenile traffic arrests, 152 highway accidents, and 210,911 miles driven with 20,602 gallons gasoline used.
