Howland School music teacher Mrs. Lynne Petersime crafted a Christmas program titled Hey ET Here Comes Christmas featuring 170 third graders. The production included themes of decorations snow caroling Hannukah and the Christ Child with Frosty and Santa Claus visits and a dress rehearsal attended by younger classes.

Trumbull County Alert Team with 575 members hosted a Christmas party for more than 400 needy children at Cortland Conservation League on Dec. 19. Volunteers collected toys, refurbished clothing, and planned 50 food baskets with help from Crawford County’s new team. donations have been slow.

The Howland district faced a 541000 shortfall in 1982 after a 200000 cut and personal property revenue drop. The board set 1983 rates: General Fund 25.60 mills, Emergency Operating 6.15 mills, Bond Retirement 1.20 mills, total 32.95 mills, and approved a 30 month OAPSE contract with about 170 workers granting 6 percent raise from January and 4 percent from July 1983. William J Swindler longtime Howland leader dies at 61
Funeral services were held for William J. Swindler 61 of 2671 Orchard SE at Bolindale Church. An Army WWII veteran born Jan 9 1921 in Niles he led local boards and groups including Howland Board of Education Bolindale Christian Church and Trumbull Industrial Management Association. Survived by his wife Virginia Beard two sons two daughters and five grandchildren with interment at Crown Hill Memorial Park. Contributions to the American Heart Association requested.
