Howland considers resubmitting 5.95-mill school levy
Howland Board of Education plans a late March or April special election to renew a 5.95 mill school levy defeated by 55 votes in November. If not approved in 1983, local schools lose about $2 million annually as the current emergency levy expires. Officials say the renewal would not raise taxes. state law bars labeling it renewal. The district aims to fund 1984–1988 at the same level, with an estimated $10,000 election cost and ongoing cuts since 1979 to balance inflation and reduced state revenue.
