Howland Township stands to gain 153687 in 1983 local government funds under a tentative settlement to a dispute over county fund distribution. The accord, unveiled after a meeting with the budget commission, would also affect Weathersfield Liberty and Warren, with a two week deadline for approval by all 35 subdivisions.

Howland Band Prepares For 1983 Show Season

Howland band led by Jim Jackson with Tom Calderone previews a new 1983 show after Band Camp at Thiel College. With 242 musicians and eight majorettes, the group opens Band Night at Champion Band Night on Aug 20 and greets fans at Tiger Stadium Aug 23, Hubbard Aug 24, Warren Aug 25, and Niles Aug 29. Band Boosters sponsor a cheese sale starting Aug 16.

Howland Junior High School Registration Notice

New students entering Howland Junior High School grades 7-8 must register in the office from August 22 to 26 between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Eighth graders may collect schedules August 23, and seventh graders attend an orientation August 25 from 9:30 to 11 a.m. in the cafeteria to pick up schedules, receive information, and tour the building.

County United Way begins 1984 campaign drive

A Warren based United Way of Trumbull County campaign team has begun early work for the 1984 drive set to run from September 19 to October with a kickoff banquet at Packard Music Hall. The goal is to raise funds for local human service agencies while a new general chairman is named to replace Robert Loughhead who has resigned to pursue an executive post elsewhere.

Howland Schools Set to Open on August 30

Howland Local Schools announce the start of classes on August 30 with early summer registration and orientation for new students. Ninth graders and parents attend orientations August 23 and 24 by last name. Seventh and eighth graders arrange schedules and registrations around August 22–23. Elementary buildings opened August 15 and kindergarten enrollment is urged by August 22. High school registration occurred August 15–16 with parking forms available on day one.

Stadium improvements bring donated scoreboards to high school

Township residents and Coca-Cola Bottling Co donate three scoreboards for football and gym use. The Fairplay computerized football board, 9.5 by 29 feet, will be installed by Aug. 19. Labor and electrical work are donated, seats replaced with capacity rising to 5700. Cost to district about 60824, covered by gate receipts and donations.

Meet the Coach Night at Howland High Aug 18

Howland High School hosts Meet The Coach Night on Thursday August 18 in the cafeteria. All football parents and interested parties are invited as ninth grade and high school coaches mingle. Forty-four athletes prep for the 1983 season under first year head coach Mark Pallante amid two a days and three scrimmages against Mentor Lake Catholic Geneva and North Canton Hoover.
