Musical Pride of Howland Set for August 21 Band Night

The Howland High School Marching Band prepares for a busy season with Band Camp at Thiel College in Greenville Pennsylvania. Band Night is Tuesday August 21 at Tiger Football Stadium followed by appearances in Hubbard Warren Harding Niles and Champion through August 28. The group will perform at a Buffalo Bills halftime show on September 2 and participate in events at Warren Junior Military Bandshow and various fundraisers in September and October. Led by James Jackson, with Tom Calderone, Jill Earich, and Don Lovett, the unit features ten majorettes and dynamic routines.

Timmins Loses Reappointment To Hillside Trustees

In Warren, Dr. William Timmins, chair of the Trumbull County Democratic Party, was not reappointed to the Hillside Hospital Board of Trustees at a county commissioners meeting. Dr. Mario Massullo was appointed 2 to 1. Latell and Dennison defended Timmins’s work. Magee dissented. The clash stems from internal party politics and past alliances, with Timmins claiming the move was political.

Robin Hartleys Sesame Street art brightens rehab center

Robin Hartley a Cortland resident and Ohio State sophomore painted Sesame Street wall art at the Children's Rehabilitation Center. The volunteer sketches featuring Big Bird Ernie Bert and Cookie Monster cheer some children while others touch the drawings to feel real. She also built a Care Bear playhouse from a cardboard box and plans a rainbow mural. Hartley aims to return as a volunteer next summer after about 100 hours of service.

Howland woman turns 90 still going strong

Goldie Haines of Howland, who credits fresh air, good food, and rest for her longevity, celebrated her 90th birthday on Aug 3 with a party Aug 4 at her Orchard Avenue home. She moved from Mt. Morris, Pennsylvania, raised six children, and remained active in sewing, crocheting, and church activities.

Registration at Howland Jr High for new students

Howland Junior High asks new students to register in the office from August 16 to 24 between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Seventh graders should attend orientation on August 23 from 9 30 to 11 30 a.m. Eighth graders may pick up their schedules on Friday August 24.

Freshman Orientation Schedule Announced at HOWLAND

Ninth grade students and parents are invited to an orientation and open house in the auditorium of the ninth grade building. A to L attend at 10 a.m. on Thursday Aug 23 and M to Z at 10 a.m. on Friday Aug 24. Freshmen may pick up schedules then, while upperclass schedules arrive Aug 28 in homeroom.
