Disaster at Bay of Fundy sinks Monticello with 34 lost

Halifax November 19 a Cape Sable bound steamer struck near the mouth of the Bay of Fundy in a heavy gale and disappeared with thirty four passengers and crew lost. Five survivors reached shore uninjured. The Monticello was built for coastal service between Yarmouth and St John. Captain T M Harding of Yarmouth commanded it with a crew of about thirty seven. The wreck left many widows and orphans among coastal communities as search continue for other survivors.
