Showers Set to Move Across Northwest Arkansas

Carl Eugene Sleepy Cox 83 longtime city employee died Saturday in a local hospital. Funeral services were held Monday at Herndon Funeral Home with Milton Peebles officiating and burial in Memory Gardens. Gibson named county supervisor in Farmers Home Admin

Gibson appointed county supervisor for the Farmers Home Administration in Hempstead County announced by state director Robert L. Hawkins. He began duties in Hope on September 14. A Gould, Arkansas native, Gibson is a Reed High School and A M N College graduate with Tuskegee Institute summer terms. He previously taught vocational agriculture, then served as economic opportunity loan supervisor at Helena and held several supervisory posts before transferring to Hope. He and his wife Joyce Holden have two daughters, Regina and Teri, and are Baptist. He succeeds Philip W. Cox.

Asa S. Stone of Dierks aged 73 died Monday from accidental gunshot wounds while cleaning a rifle. Born March 1 1902 at Center Point Ark he is survived by wife Jewell Stone a daughter Maxine Bates of Detroit stepson Herbert Miller and two stepdaughters Arlene Horn and Helen Jackson six grandchildren two great grandchildren and 14 step grandchildren. Funeral 2 p.m. Wednesday at Dierks Methodist Church with Revs Altus Block and Herb Peeker officiating burial in Center Point cemetery.

Pine Bluff Seeks Rail Removal From City Center

Rep Ray Thornton urged the House Surface Transportation Subcommittee to authorize 25 million dollars to remove the 104 street rail inter sections from Pine Bluff Arkansas arguing the move would ease traffic and curb hazards. He noted about 40 mile long trains pass daily through downtown causing safety risks and hurting business.
