The National Weather Service reports showers and thundershowers scattered over south and west Arkansas as clouds move northeastward, covering all but the extreme northeast corner of the state.
A strong gulf moist air flow augmente precipitation across Arkansas with a trough and cold front approaching from the west. Heaviest rain expected in the western half Tuesday, with 0.82 inches at Harrison and lighter totals elsewhere. highs Sunday ranged from 83 to 89 across several cities.

A Hope man was arrested Sunday and charged with theft in connection with a break in at the Western Auto Store on South Main Street. Two pilots and a number of guns were taken from the store. Police say the investigation continues Monday morning.
Pod Rogers leads the weigh-in in Hutchinson with a 105-pound Hope melon that wins the world title and a bet between Kansas and Arkansas over largest watermelon. The Kansas entry weighs 91 pounds. Atlanta doctors pursued the source of the nations only post 1911 cholera case. A 51 year old Port Lavaca shrimper fell ill August 19 and recovered. Tests included the man, his family, contacts, motel water, a Gulf of Mexico water sample, ships logs, and crew records from an Indian ship. No link to Italy was found.

Henry S. Ackerman reports in Buenos Aires that Juan D. Peron won the Argentine presidency with 61.68 percent of the vote, triggering massive street celebrations as supporters hailed his return after 18 years in exile. Peron’s running mate Isabel Martinez de Peron would become the hemisphere first woman vice president and potential president.

William A. Davidson of Texarkana died at the scene when his car left the road and overturned about 12 miles west of Texarkana injuring three others.
