The Hon. Jim Wallace Texas State Senator was inaugurated Governor of Texas for the day on September 7 in special ceremonies at Austin. Wallace is the nephew of Dr. Emmett Thompson. the First Lady, Martha Jean Wallace, is the daughter of Mrs. Wilsie Thompson Jack of Little Rock and sister of Dr. Thompson.
Walter E. Hussman Jr. was elected to a three year term as a director of the Southern Newspaper Publishers Association at the association's annual convention. He is the publisher of the Arkansas Democrat and represents COLORADO SPRINGS.

Gilliam urges yearly tests noting rising hearing loss nationwide and says those who pass gain peace of mind while those with loss can seek relief options.

In Greenville Mississippi during a U S district court hearing James B Slicker Davis testified he stabbed Bo gard in 1972 aiming to kill him after Bo gard accused him of rule violations. Davis said his knife broke and he could not stab again. Bo gard was paralyzed for life and sues former Parchman prison officials. The hearing resumes Wednesday with Bogard's side and defense testimony to follow.
Funeral services were held for Earl H. Yates at 10 a.m. in the Lewis Funeral Home Chapel Magnolia with burial in New Ramah cemetery. Yates, 61, native of Sutton, died Sunday in a Magnolia hospital, survived by a widow, one son Larry, two daughters Linda Sue Greaves of Houston and Judy Warren of Lynchburg, five brothers, four sisters, and multiple grandchildren. Also noted, Isabel Leonard, 74, former Hope resident, died in Liberty Missouri with services at Oakcrest. Lloyd W. Bell, 74, died in Shreveport with services. Lillie Adell Davis, 85, to be buried Beltone Cemetery with services at Oakcrest. Survivors listed include spouses, children, siblings, and grandchildren across several states.
Funeral services for little John Lynn Wright, 20 months old, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Herndon Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Starling Aaron Jr. officiating. Burial will be at Betts Cemetery. The child died Sunday afternoon in an accident at his home eight miles south of Hope. He is survived by his parents Mr and Mrs Charles Peeks Jr a stepsister Karen all of Patmos maternal grandparents Mr and Mrs Johnny Aaron of Little Rock and step grandfather Charles Peeks Sr of Patmos.
