The National Weather Service says a stationary front moving toward Arkansas will raise the chance of showers and thundershowers in the northern half of the state. Rain is expected to lessen by Tuesday afternoon.
Fayetteville and Harrison recorded a trace of rain in the last 24 hours. State weather looks partly cloudy, mild and cool through Tuesday with a stationary front from the east coast to Colorado. Experiment station reports show highs in the low to mid 80s and nights in the upper 50s to low 60s.

Mrs. Fred Formby of the John Cain Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution urges citizens to fly flags during Constitution Week. The proclamation designates September 17 to 23, 1973, as Constitution Week per Public Law 915, marking the Constitution anniversary and official recognition by the city.
Miami youths Tommy Evans aged 20 and Bud dy Cosgrove 19 survived after their 13 foot dingy sank in the Caribbean when their cabin cruiser struck a log. They were spotted by a Coast Guard plane 125 miles northwest of Swan Island and were taken aboard the German freighter Angelburg. A rescue followed as two other survivors from the ill fated voyage were picked up earlier by a rubber liferaft. The Coast Guard planned to off load them near Miami as the search continued.
In Stockholm AP reports Sweden's Social Democrats seem to keep government control after 41 years, holding a slim two seat margin in the new parliament. With 53,000 mail ballots left, observers doubt opposition can overtake the Social Democrats and Communists as official returns show 176 seats for the left bloc and 174 for the three opposition parties.
Obituary notices list Wilma Mullins of Carlsbad New Mexico aged 62, funeral held at Oak Grove Methodist Church with burial in Oak Grove cemetery. Also reported are Charles Roy Fricks of Fort Smith Arkansas age 54, funeral at Herndon Chapel with burial at Memory Gardens, plus Lomby Formby of Texarkana with burial at Maita Cemetery and survivors listed. Also mentions death and mourning events affecting other families and local communities.
Sag Ark AP report says Texarkana Jaycees will pay a reward by Sept 26 to anyone who captures the Fuuke monster. Terry Lewis, president of the TUot Kaa group, said the offer stands whether or not the creature is real, and warned the capture might still yield a reward if proven dead.
Over the weekend three minor traffic incidents were logged in Hope. At Fifth and Washington Streets Steven Bass collided with Ricky Robbins. Bass was charged with failure to yield. On Fast Third Street Howard Garner hit Chester May. no charges were filed. A Little Rock truck damaged a traffic pole on Highway 67 near Hazel Street. driver uninjured.
