Jacksonsville man arrested in stolen checks transport case

James Edward Townsley, 21, of Jacksonville, was arrested by the FBI in Little Rock on a charge of transporting stolen checks and a can from Savannah to Jacksonville. He was held on $5,000 bond for authorities in Savannah, where the charge was filed.

Castro prisoner release hopes raised by Donovan

New York AP James B. Donovan, attorney for the Cuban Families Committee for the Liberation of Prisoners of War, says Castro may free about 1100 prisoners for humanitarian reasons such as food and medicine. Kennedy Begins Final Space Tour From Huntsville

President Kennedy started the last leg of his journey from Huntsville Alabama toward the Manned Spacecraft Center in Houston Texas and the McDonnell Aircraft plant in St Louis Missouri. A crowd estimated at 200000 lined highways and sidewalks to welcome him while Vice President Johnson rode another plane and joined the welcome. Kennedy was expected to address crowds along the 14 mile route to his hotel with Gov Price Daniel and Houston Mayor Lewis Cutter aboard. White House described the trip as a business visit with political tones, while Congressman Bob Casey protested not being invited to join the trip.

Record Enrollment Reaches 146 At UAMS

In Little Rock AP report, University of Arkansas Medical Center officials said enrollment for 1962-63 rose to a record 146 students, up 27 from last year. The School of Medicine welcomed 104 freshman students, another record.

Bids Opened for Morris Jory Vocational School

AP reports bids for a new state vocational technical school at Morris Jory will be opened by the state Board of Education on October 9. Plans were approved Monday with $275,000 allocated. $250,000 to construction and $25,000 for equipment.
