The Associated Press reports a 40 percent chance of scattered thundershowers in Arkansas today and Thursday, with 20 percent tonight. Warm moist Gulf air continues to influence the state and the extended outlook calls for a cold period Friday through Sunday.

Del City Baptist Church pastor Rev. Bailey Smith spoke at the Kiwanis Club at Town and Country Restaurant. He urged optimism, strong family ties, the value of laughter, enthusiasm, and a willingness to share with others during revival services at First Baptist Church through Friday with Sam Wakefield leading music.
The Senate is expected to join the House in voting to override President Ford's veto of a 7.9 billion education appropriations bill. If enacted, it would be the second override this session. The House tally was 379 to 41, with similar expectations in the Senate. The bill surpasses Ford's request by 1.5 billion and expands aid to school districts, college students, disadvantaged children, libraries, handicapped education, and vocational programs.

The Bloodmobile returns to Hope on Monday September 15 and Tuesday September 16 from 12 noon to 6 pm each day. It will be at the youth fellowship hall of First Baptist Church at Third and Walnut. Daily quota is 100 pints with county residents prioritized to ensure local blood coverage. Charles Walker, Hempstead County Bloodmobile chairman, urges residents to donate.

Grace Baptist Church will host Back to School Day this Sunday at 10 a.m. A gift will be given to every student present at Sunday School. The church sits one mile east on Highway 67 with bus transportation available. Pastor Richard Martin leads the service.

Tickets at Citizens National Bank Anderson Frazier Insurance Agency and Herndon Funeral Home cost 1.50 for all, includes unlimited servings with homemade batter sausage butter and drinks, profits aid Kiwanis Youth Programs and the Golden Age Club.
In Dubuque Iowa the associate pastor Father Mark McGovern 34 has been relieved of parish duties after opposing the Holy Ghost School loss of Catholic instruction. Another priest left the rectory in sympathy. McGovern challenged archbishop's demand to curb sermons claiming Sisters of St Francis fail to teach basics. School officials met with McGovern to resolve differences per a reported agreement.
A pet doe in the Back 40 behind the editor's home sheds her Summer coat for a Winter one. The deer, named Bambi, is a yearling raised by Robin Gideon and Nora Cole of Hope, who ended up with the animal after it jumped the fence. Bambi reportedly prefers cigars over chewing tobacco.
