Centennial preview two weeks away in Hope

On Thursday September 19, Hope citizens will preview the 75 season with an executive committee event. The Belles and Beaux will attend a Hollywood Premiere style briefing at City Hall with antique autos guiding couples to Elm Street for introductions by George Frazier. City parks and recreation will use bleachers for about 600 spectators. lawn chairs are welcome.

Air threat grows as MIGs near South Vietnam border

U S intelligence says North Vietnam moved MIG fighters close to the South Vietnamese border marking the most active air threat yet. South Vietnamese air defenses are weak with radar at Da Nang often inoperable and pilots largely lacking air-to-air combat experience. North Vietnamese surface to air missiles now extend across territory in South Vietnam, threatening any contesting jets. Reports place MIGs at Dong Hoi base about 30 miles north of the DMZ with continued activity since last month.

Miss Texas wins swimsuit prize at Miss America prelims
