A cold front moving south from the north is expected to trigger showers and thunderstorms across Arkansas today and into Saturday. An upper level disturbance from Texas linked to the remnants of Hurricane Caroline rides the system, intensifying the storm potential as the front approaches.

Miss Arkansas wins preliminary in Miss America pageant

Paula Denise Roach of Arkansas State University gained six pounds before the pageant to earn a preliminary swimsuit award and a $1,000 scholarship in Atlantic City. Cynthia Mary Carpenter of Wayland Massachusetts took talent honors with a modern classical piano performance. Ford in Sacramento continues on public sector stance

Ford argued that recent job growth relies too much on government and that a large bureaucracy hinders prosperity. Kiwanis Pancake Supper Slated for Sept 12 at High School
