Forecasts warn of partly to mostly cloudy skies with warm temperatures and widely scattered afternoon and evening thundershowers. Arkansas expects highs in the 80s from northwest to southeast with tonight’s lows mid to high 60s. Louisiana stays warm into Wednesday with lows 68 to 76 and highs 86 to 94.

A Monday fire gutted the Tri-County Motor Co in Dardanelle Arkansas causing more than 25000 in damage. Owner R E Warren said the blaze destroyed a standalone building and did not threaten nearby structures.

American officials insist West Berlin is not Soviet territory and hold Moscow responsible for East Berlin actions.
The North Little Rock high school band will perform a newly commissioned three movement piece by Clifton Williams. Williams will direct the work and donate 5 percent of his royalties to the band, which will use funds to pay a $500 fee and to commission another score. He plans to name the piece after delivery in January. In Arkansas wildlife news, the Game and Fish Commission has closed alligator hunting season permanently to protect crocs.

Arkansas state Board of Education will meet August 1 to decide if requesting governor Faubus to include 275000 dollars for a vocational technical school in a second special session call. Education Commissioner Arch Ford said the matter would be put to the board, after a House approved the bill but the Senate fell two votes short. Ford noted no comment on a possible 2 million teacher salary bonus, unnecessary as surplus land funds were largely exhausted.

LEICESTER England UP report describes a No 28 bus on Clarendon Park Road where the driver slowed each trip. Conductor Michael Peers leaped off to retrieve an upper plate coughed up by a passenger earlier that day. He quipped he is not used to them yet and urged caution in the future.

Lea Roy Kimes, a 50 year old convict from Chester Arkansas, escaped McDonald County jail in Pineville Missouri by picking a lock with a wire coat hanger. He faced Missouri charges for pot office burglary car theft and bringing a stolen car into Missouri while already serving an eight year Arkansas sentence and linked to post office break-ins in Jane and Powell. Arkansas and Texas prisons and federal terms at Leavenworth and Alcatraz are noted in his prior history. A search with about 35 Arkansas officers expanded into the Southwestern Missouri Ozarks after the escape.
