Mrs Mae Haizlip Ferguson Mo became speed queen with an average 255.513 mph, 40.887 mph faster than Ruth Nichols. Her husband Jimmie Haizlip had set a coast to coast record last week in the same plane. Hard rain affected races in Cleveland with Mrs Gladys ODonnell winning the women’s high speed free for all. Haizlip finished in second amid mist and fading visibility.

Texarkana reports oil flow from the Fitzwater Beck No. 1 well fourteen miles east of town after two years of intermittent operation. Estimated output ranges from 300 to 400 barrels daily as operators and scouts rush to buy leases. The well lies six miles southwest of Dooley's Ferry near Hempstead county, three miles southwest of the Lenz discovery. Rumors speak of a nearer Hempstead line spudding near Clear Lake after this opening.

Two Killed Over Minor Offense in Tennessee Cabin Shootout
In Lebanon Tennessee Sunday night a deputy and a constable were killed during an attempt to arrest five African American men for a minor offense at a cabin. Deputy Sam Smith was wounded as gunfire erupted. The two officers were identified as Ben Northern and M E Brown. Five suspects were arrested.
