Body retrieved from Black River near Newport

The body of William Morris, 20, of Tuckerman was recovered from the Black River near the Elgin Ferry north of Newport. Authorities say Morris drowned Sunday afternoon while swimming in the river. His body was found about 2.5 miles downstream from where he disappeared.

Prison riot at Mount Meigs center ends after water hoses and shotgun warning shots

A racially charged prison clash at Mount Meigs Medical and Diagnostic Center near Montgomery left two inmates hospitalized and 34 others injured.
