New Tax Worries for German Bachelor in 1935
The 1935 German tax schedule boosts offsets for fathers of children while increasing burdens on bachelors. For a family with five children, up to 3,800 marks are exempt, but a bachelor at that income level faces tax. At 75,000 marks the bachelor pays 37,500, vs 23,480 for a father of three. Incomes above 120,000 marks push bachelors to 50 percent, others to 40. New York City crises from 1930 are noted as contrast.
