The National Weather Service reports a large high pressure system dominating Arkansas, yielding cloudless skies and mild temperatures. No precipitation has been reported since last Tuesday and none is forecast.
Arkansas forecast fair to partly cloudy through Wednesday with little temperature change. Highs in the low to mid 80s and lows in the 50s. El Dorado Texarkana reported 83 for Monday afternoon, other areas 82 Fort Smith 81 Little Rock and Pine Bluff 80 Memphis 79 Fayetteville Harrison Jonesboro.

Three boys ages 12 and 13 were charged with first degree murder for setting a derelict, Charles Scales, 38, on fire as he slept behind an abandoned building. They also face two counts of assault with intent to commit murder for torching two other men, Emmett Spratling 53 and J B Blackburn 50, who survived. Spratling’s injuries were minor while Scales died ten hours after the attack.
Sheridan Arkansas municipal case centers on 76 year old Mayor A R McKenzie charged with making harassing phone calls to a housewife and her four year old daughter. He denies the accusation saying he is framed by political foes and faces a October 30 court appearance with potential fines up to 1000 dollars or one year in jail. Authorities traced calls to his residence and police found the line not tampered with.
In Natchitoches Louisiana flames ripped through a house trailer killing four year old Davis McFerren Jr and his three year old sister Patricia. Their mother had stepped across the street for a brief telephone call and returned to find the trailer ablaze. The fire chief said she was away no more than five minutes and no cause has been determined.
MADRID AP Gen Francisco Franco and his wife celebrated their golden wedding anniversary with a family party at El Prado palace. Franco is due to turn 84 in December and his wife is 73.
