A column by ALEx. H. WASHBURN argues that the eight initiated acts threaten the republic. He warns that the initiative bypasses representative government, inviting minority rule and possible state bankruptcy, while praising the referendum as wise and just.
Governor Ross S. Sterling who is a Democrat wore a Bullington-for-Governor button to show support for Orville Bullington the Wichita Falls Republican nominee. Sterling otherwise stayed quiet on campaigning and had previously said he would not back Miriam Ferguson in the gubernatorial race.
Initiative Act No 1 proposes a general sales tax of one per cent on most sales including groceries and papers, with exemptions for some items. Initiative Act No 2 would restore a minority party seat on the three member election board. Initiative Act No 3 seeks four year terms for certain officials and a formal budget enforcement system.
Constitutional Amendment No 19 calls for a half mill property tax, a one percent sales tax, receipts distribution, and poll tax collection methods. Amendment No 20 limits highway bonds to two thirds voter approval at next general election, excluding refunding. Amendment No 21 ensures common schools receive at least $6 per capita and prevents fund diversion. Amendment No 22 exempts 40 acre homesteads and town lots from property tax. Amendment No 23 proposes a split legislature session and a four year term for state officials with no governor re election.

Walnut Ridge Arkansas reports an impending public hanging as Bill Jones a longtime peace officer J F Israel recalls a farewell letter from Jones to his sweetheart dated just before the scaffold. The letter says they will marry after the hanging, delaying the wedding.
Dr. Garry Cleveland Myers of Western Reserve University spoke to Hope audiences on parenting and adolescence. He presented at Hope City Hall on We Parents and Our Children, at a noon Hotel Barlow luncheon on Adolescence, and at 2 pm on Parents and Children's Relationship Problems. A second lecture series is planned for October 28 with Miss Druzilla Kent and Miss Edith Thomas.

Announcement from Jonesboro Arkansas reports the wedding of Mrs. Sarah J. Warner to the Rev. James A. Anderson 74 presiding elder of the Jonesboro district Methodist Episcopal Church South. The ceremony was officiated by Rev. H. Lynn Wade pastor of First Methodist Church.
