Dr. Joe Barentine, Hope Public Schools superintendent, spoke at the Hope Rotary Club on October 16 at the Sheraton Inn. He discussed Sex Discrimination and Due Process of Law in Discipline, noting boards’ liability and broader areas beyond athletics.
The state court held libel provisions unconstitutional when statements were made without knowledge of their falsity or with reckless disregard for truth. The attorney general’s argument to read the statute constitutionally would have required adding language the court would not amend to fit U.S. Supreme Court rules. Special Justice LeRoy Autrey wrote the opinion in Texarkana while Associate Justice John A. Fogleman recused himself.
In Beirut heavy rock et mortar fire and gunfire spread across districts.
