The Arkansas Committee on Stream Preservation drafted a bill to protect scenic rivers. It seeks inclusion in a possible special session called by Gov. Winthrop Rockefeller. The plan creates a permanent state scenic rivers system with easement rights and bank zoning along several streams including the Buffalo Kings Big Mulberry Eleven Point Big Piney Creek.
Ferenc Nagy former Hungarian prime minister now in exile will address students at Quachua Baptist University in Arkadelphia on Tuesday. Nagy led Hungary from 1946 to 1947 and is slated to speak about his experiences and exile.

An Associated Press tally reports three deaths in Arkansas highway crashes over a 54 hour weekend starting 6 p.m. Friday and ending Sunday midnight. In Rogers on U S 71 a head on crash killed Martin Butt 22 of Fayetteville and Debra Sue Thomas University of Arkansas student from Fort Smith. Claude Richard Miller 87 of Mountain Home died in a two car collision on U S 62 five miles south of Harrison Saturday.
Washington AP reports Defense Secretary Melvin Laird forecasts a definite slow down in the defense industry as major program cuts and spending reductions for fiscal year 1979 are expected to ease inflation. He cites a 4.1 billion dollar cut in planned expenditures and personnel reductions as influential indicators.
Joy Stilley notes a 1950s shopping trend as stores, mail order houses offer a lineup of exercise gadgets from swivel boards to weighted belts and exercise bikes. In Hempstead Circuit Court Judge Arnold took under advisement a defense motion for Dennis Turner 19 claiming double jeopardy in the robbery of Larry Yates. Turner was previously found not guilty in the Christmas murder of Yates. A separate Turner co defendant Richard Turner had his trial delayed by the defense. Ira Lee West pled guilty to burglary and grand larceny and received five years probation. court recessed to November 7.
About 12:50 p.m. Sunday a chicken coop fell from a Gros yer Thompson truck on Third Street striking a Volkswagen driven by William Knivst of Mill Creek. The truck was driven by William G. Haynie of Lewisville. The car sustained severe damage. no charges were filed per City Officer Jesse Brown.

Across Vietnam in the last day fighting intensified with reports of 197 killed overall. In the Mekong Delta near U Minh Forest US helicopters supported a major South Vietnamese assault that left 96 Viet Cong dead. A Vietnamese unit suffered six killed and 16 wounded in a five hour battle. U.S. helicopter losses included two downed craft with crew wounded. Southeast of Da Nang North Vietnamese forces shelled a mixed U.S. South Vietnamese platoon, then attacked. five Americans were killed and five wounded along with several militiamen wounded.
KXAR will install a Collins console this Monday night, announced General Manager Haskell Jones.
