Firemen Injured in Boston Suburb Blaze Razes 20 Blocks
A wind fueled fire swept across 20 blocks of wooden tenements and small businesses in Chelsea Massachusetts leaving 1100 homeless. Five firefighters were hospitalized with injuries and no deaths were reported as 3000 to 4000 evacuated. Sparks, 30 mph winds, and a half mile wide path marked a vast urban blaze. The area, once industrial and slated for demolition, saw half the 60 dwellings destroyed and many residents sheltered with relatives or in a makeshift dormitory.
