An 1800 pound water buffalo missing from Hidden Valley Ranch was spotted Thursday afternoon swimming in Lake Nimrod near Russellville. A fisherman helped secure the animal after Joe Hughes, a ranch parent, wrapped a rope around its horns and guided it to shore. The buffalo had been bought as a pet by ranch owner Glen Cunningham who also keeps other wildlife.

Texarkana prosecutor Norman Smith filed a second information charging Arkadelphia attorney Wayne R. Williams, 33, with bribery over an alleged $5,000 payoff to influence a state official regarding Frank S. Wheat’s criminal case. Williams, free on $100,000 bond, previously faced grand larceny charges tied to Wheat. The incident allegedly occurred Sept. 10 in Miller County.
Hope High School selects Carol Frazier as the 1974 DAR Good Citizen. She is the daughter of George T. and Mrs. Frazier, with fellow nominees Pat Jones and Mona Rowe. Frazier will compete for state and national DAR honors and later this month attends the Southern Association of Student Councils convention in Lake Junaluska, N C as HHS parliamentarian. She also served as a 1972 delegate to the National meeting in Chicago.

A horseback rider was killed when struck by a tractor trailer rig south of Yellville Arkansas on Thursday night. State Police identified the victim as William B. McLean 37 of near Yellville.

The Lonoke Baptist Church Youth Department hosts its annual Youth Day on Sunday October 14 with services at 10 45 a m and 2 39 p m. Youth lead both services with guest choirs from Texarkana and Hope. Lead speakers are Larry Ross a 16 year old Hope High School sophomore and licentiate minister at Bethel A M E Church for the 10 45 service and Elbert Robinson Jr a 16 year old Arkansas High School junior and licentiate minister at 11th Street Baptist Church Texarkana for the 2 30 service. Lonoke's Youth Choir aims to showcase two years of effort and invites all to attend.
Twelve year old John Green of Route 2 Box 1880 was injured at 3 40 pm Thursday when his motorcycle was struck by a car driven by Tommy Dean Adams of Hope. He was taken to Memorial Hospital by a Hempstead County ambulance. Friday morning his condition was reported as all right. The accident happened when Green made a left turn in front of Adams at Third and Walnut Streets. No charges were filed.
