Americans Killed in War Last Week in Vietnam

Twenty one Americans were killed in combat in Vietnam last week, down from the prior period, while 117 were wounded, up 70 from two weeks ago. South Vietnamese forces suffered 305 dead and 869 wounded, and allied operations reported 1,739 North Vietnamese and Viet Cong killed. Noncombat deaths rose by 10 to 16. The report notes border fighting near Cambodia and shelling ahead of Saigon’s presidential election.
