The National Weather Service says a cold front is approaching the state and should move across Arkansas by tonight. Scattered showers are expected to move into northwest Arkansas with the front and spread statewide, bringing much cooler conditions tonight.
Arkansas weather report notes scattered showers ending tonight with much cooler conditions. Friday will be fair and cooler with highs in the low 70s to upper 70s and lows ranging mid 40s to upper 50s. Experiment station records show 24 hour high 80 and low 65.
CONWAY Ark AP The proposed construction of a low rent housing project here is endangered by Conway Housing Authority failure to submit documents to federal officials. HUD warns that if title problems with natural gas lines across the site are not solved by Oct 10 1973 the project could be cancelled.
Lonoke Baptist Church plans Annual Youth Day on October 14 with activities from 10 45 a m to 2 30 p m. Guest youth choirs from Eleventh Street Baptist Texarkana and Garret Chapel Baptist will perform. A student minister from Eleventh Street Baptist will deliver the 2 30 p m message. Rev L Bennie Beard Jr is the pastor.
Two Jackson Five members face charges of receiving stolen property from burglaries across 50 San Fernando Valley apartments. John P. Jackson 22 and Tito 19 are facing one and two counts respectively, with Sanders Bracy 24 charged on four counts of receiving stolen property and eight counts of burglary. All to enter pleas Oct. 17.
The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People will hold its 64th annual state conference at Lonoke Baptist Church in Hope on October 12 and 13 with day and night sessions. Topics include Farm Families and Organizations, Army ROTC, Voter Registration, Education, and Revenue Sharing. A Friday night public meeting will feature attorney George Howard of Pine Bluff, plus a youth dance and Saturday banquet. A mass choir from Hope and The New Light CME Church of Nashville will provide music.
Theodore Eldridge county supervisor of Hempstead County announced federal Soil and Water loans for this fiscal year. Eligible applicants include farm tenants owners partnerships or domestic corporations with farming operations and limited credit resources. Loans at five percent interest may cover terraces dikes ponds wells irrigation drainage land clearing fencing fertilization and soil conservation measures with repayment up to 40 years.

Coast Guard investigators search for the cause of an explosion aboard the tanker Texaco North Dakota killing three sailors. Two crewmen were rescued about 60 miles off Port Arthur as the vessel headed toward Texas. Ronald Johnson, 37, of Port Arthur, survived burns and recounted the moment of impact and smoke-filled room.
Sedalia Missouri and surrounding areas were struck by a tornado and heavy rain. Four mobile homes were destroyed and five damaged as eight people sought treatment for minor injuries. Rain totals reached 4.7 inches in Sedalia, with over 6 inches in two days. flash flood warnings issued for central Missouri. A man was swept from a highway while helping a stranded motorist. A scuba diver checked a car at the Missouri State Fairgrounds with no occupant found. At La Monte, campers valued at $15,000 were destroyed at a dealership. Flooding affected rivers across Missouri, Iowa and Illinois.
Montreal AP reports that the Saint John New Brunswick mill of MacMillan Rothesay Ltd. approved a new contract ending a 26 day walkout by about 400 workers, as talks resume with a federal conciliator set to join negotiations.
