Fort Smith Weather Sets Record With Cold Start
Fort Smith marks a second straight record low day as temperatures dip across Arkansas. Lows include 43 at Pine Bluff and Memphis, 42 at El Dorado, 40 at Texarkana and Jonesboro, with highs near 70 to the low 70s by Saturday under high pressure from the north. Elbert J. Carlton, 75, died Thursday in a local hospital in Nevada County. Survivors include his wife Nancy, three sons, two daughters, three brothers, one sister, 16 grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Most Arkansas Nursing Homes Comply With New Medication Law
Arkansas health officials report more than half of the state's 215 nursing homes are in compliance with the new law that requires only licensed personnel to give medications. Of 133 homes inspected, six were not in compliance but have since met the rule. Inspections began July 29, with federal Medicaid funding at stake for noncompliant facilities. Some homes addressed the requirement by double shifts or reduced overtime. others hired more licensed staff.
