A large high pressure area to the north brings clear skies and cool temperatures to Arkansas. The high centered in Iowa pulls cool Canadian air into the state. The cold front moved through Wednesday and is now in southeast Louisiana. Expect clear skies and cool temperatures through Friday with highs in the 60s.
The National Weather Service predicts scattered frost in north Arkansas with record lows possible statewide. Lows range from mid 30s north to mid 40s south. highs near 80 and lows in 50s expected later. Published notices include mailing rates, circulation details, and advertising reps for Ark Dailies.
Rep. Morris K. Udall will delay a planned Arkansas swing from Oct 14 to Oct 24. Udall’s Washington office cited Gov. David Pryor’s Oct 14 European trip as the reason. The trip now includes Little Rock Jonesboro and Fayetteville with Pryor arranging a noon luncheon for Udall.
Hope High freshmen host a charity car wash October 4 at Hope Lions Service Station. Ray Turner of Hope Auto and Ford Society member, along with Kiwanis officers, participate in upcoming events. Radio station KXAR sees Carna Cato promoted to acting manager October 1. Barbara Martin joins Harding College yearbook staff for 1975 76, with scheduled visits by Arkansas Rehabilitation Service counselor Marva Danibs on October 2, 9, 16 and 23.
Hope Kiwanis Club inducts two new members Rev W S Bishop and Joe Matt Herndon at Town and Country Restaurant as Bob Willis becomes incoming president for 1975 76. He announces committee goals including 102 new members by October 1 1976 and aims to expand youth services education and community programs.
Toms Burkhart of the Hope Jaycees announced a program recognizing Hempstead County's young farmers. A banquet will be held at 6 p.m. October 1 at Fair Park coliseum with guest speaker Orville Childs of Magnolia, Arkansas. Barbecued beef and chicken will be served.
Uganda's President Idi Amin used a United Nations General Assembly address to demand the extinction of Israel and urged Black Americans to close ranks against perceived subjugation. He claimed Britain and Israel set a negative example, while American NAACP official Clarence Mitchell Jr. called Amin's demand ridiculous and unwelcome. The assembly approved credentials of all participating countries amid the dispute.
Police at Madrid mourners post funeral booed Prime Minister Carlos Arias Navarro and demanded his resignation amid cries blaming clemency for terrorists. Flags of FRAP and ETA were cited as sources of violence as 300,000 mourners cheered Franco on the 39th anniversary of his rise to power.
In Batesville Arkansas state Rep John Miller chairing the Economic Development Study Commission called for better highway financing for rural areas and criticized using highway funds for rapid transit He warned removing trust funds could cut federal backing Miller urged greater access to cash for rural developers while opposing higher interest rates Also raised were social services health care and population trends with discussion of transportation utilities education and the environment.
Lizzie Matlock Jones 84 of Delight died Sunday at Pike County Hospital. She left two sons and three daughters, with services at Harrison Chapel Baptist Church, burial at Harrison Chapel Cemetery. Annie Lee Ashford Wright 4 of Mineral Springs died Tuesday in a Nashville nursing home. Survived by a son and daughter, eight grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren. Burial followed Latimer Funeral Chapel service at Mineral Springs Cemetery.
Chairman Charles E. Childress announced the Arkansas section of the American Society of Agricultural Engineers will meet October 3 at the Marble Falls Convention Center near Harrison. Events run 7 30 a m to 3 30 p m with topics on rice field hydrology solar energy and landscape architecture. The Outstanding Young Engineer's Award will be given to the member most contributing to community or state and profession. A brief business meeting precedes a buffet luncheon.
