Thanksgiving Day Weather Outlook For Arkansas

Kiwanis Farm City Week highlights agriculture ties

Johnny Mason vice president of Riceland Foods was guest speaker at the Kiwanis Farm City Week meeting at Town and Country Restaurant. Horace Fuller chaired the program with intro by Johnny Burke. Mason praised urban rural cooperation and noted Arkansas agricultural growth with farm product value around 2.5 billion dollars. He spoke of Riceland Foods as farmer owned with 25 000 members and last year’s gross sales of 563 million. The Hope Star honored Hempstead County Farm Family of the Year, the Martin Stanley family, with a plaque presented by C. M. Rogers Jr. Forty five to fifty farm friends attended.

Council awards Girl Scout leaders at Texarkana luncheon

The Conifer Girl Scout Council held its annual meeting and awards luncheon at the YWCA Texarkana with Earl Jones Jr addressing on leadership. Officers elected include Margaret Edwards president and several vice presidents and trustees. top honors went to retiring president Pat Thompson and J L Jean for their service. Delegates from Hope and other towns attended the event.

Mills panel to expand Ways and Means committee

Rep. Wilbur D. Mills proposed enlarging the House Ways and Means Committee to 31 members with 21 Democrats and 10 Republicans to reflect the chamber’s new ratio. The move, announced after caucus agreement, aims to liberalize the panel. Also noted: Marine Pvt Felix R. Sanders graduated from recruit training in San Diego aboard Ethel M. Bradley. Japan’s shift from forbidding ships in the 1630s to now building nearly half the world’s tonnage is cited.
