U S Pacific Fleet reports a fifth Luzon raid this month near Manila wiped out a Japanese heavy cruiser a destroyer and 14 other ships while 72 planes were lost. Rescue of a B 29 crew followed a 24 hour drift in life rafts with one plane mak ing a 1500 mile recovery.

Thanksgiving Day Postoffice Closure At Hope

Hope Postoffice will be closed in all window departments all day Thursday November 30 in observance of Thanksgiving Postmaster Robert M Wilson announced. There will be no city delivery but rural mail delivery will continue as usual with rural postmen already observing a holiday. Incoming mail will be placed in boxes and outgoing mail dispatched at the Hope office as usual.

London dispatch details John Baskeyfield a lance sergeant anti tank gunner who held a lone six pound cannon against German tanks and self propelled guns at Arnhem. He destroyed two Tiger tanks and a self propelled gun, dragged his shattered leg back to the gun, and was killed while firing a final shell. The king ordered the Victoria Cross for his parents.
