The National Weather Service forecast calls for generally fair skies through Tuesday with a chance of showers Wednesday and fair skies Thursday and Friday. Temperatures fell below freezing Sunday night in parts of the state and cool readings are expected tonight as high pressure dominates.
Daily Hope Star weather report notes a trough of drier air moving eastward over Arkansas with cooler temperatures. Highs near 30s in the northwest and low to mid 30s elsewhere. overnight lows in the 20s to low 30s. Rainfall totals reported across several towns. station summaries cite high 75 and low 43 with traces of precipitation in the prior 24 hours.
An autopsy will determine the death of C. C. Colston, 3, found Saturday between four paved access roads under Interstate 30 and Rock Island railroad tracks in Little Rock. Police said two young writers found the badly decomposed body. no missing report had been filed and the duration unknown. The cause of death is undetermined at this time.
Maggie Dell Thompson aged 8 died in a local hospital Saturday. Services were Sunday at 2 30 p.m. in Herndon Chapel with Rev. Gerald W Trussell and M H Peebles officiating. Burial in Yellow Creek Cemetery by Herndon Funeral Home. Survivors include two sons Edward Hill of Saratoga and Charles Hill of Hope, two daughters Mrs C Laroy Camerson Pearsall Texas and Mrs Clarence Gilbert Washington, a brother Bryan Reed Mineral Springs, three grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Connie Ward 80 died Saturday in a local hospital. Services were Monday at 3 30 p.m. in Emmet First Baptist Church with Rev. Gerald W Trussell officiating. Burial in Snell Cemetery Funeral Home. Survivors include wife Mrs Bonnie Ward of Hope, two sons John F Ward of Sao Paulo Brazil and Elgin Ward of Monroe Louisiana, two daughters Mrs Jay S Cole Shreveport Louisiana and Mrs Floyd Malone Dallas Texas, sister Mrs Effie Jordan Malvern, nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Dr. Holbrook Seltzer of UT Southwestern Medical School told the Georgia Diabetes Association that his lab cured seriously diabetic rats by transplanting insulin producing islets. He aims to perfect techniques in dogs and monkeys for eventual human use, predicting a permanent cure for sugar diabetes.
More than 3,000 physicians from every state pre-registered for the American Cancer Society National Conference on Advances in Cancer Management to be held November 5 to 7 in New York. Dr. Fred T. Caldwell Jr. announced the event highlighting surgery radiotherapy chemotherapy immunotherapy and supportive techniques for treating cancers.
