Polar air mass advances into Arkansas from plains

A polar air mass invading the northern and central plains Sunday is moving toward Arkansas. The leading edge stretched from near Springfield Missouri to Fayetteville and into Oklahoma and Texas early today. Temperatures will drop across the state by sunset as the dry air limits any precipitation.

Parsons firm bids $188,815 on Dierks dam area

LaForge and Budd Construction Co. of Parsons Kansas appears to submit the apparent low bid of 188 815 for a downstream public use area at Dierks Dam and Lake on the Saline River five miles northwest of Dierks Arkansas The Tulsa District Corps of Engineers held the bid opening The government estimate was 184 758 and the high bid 287 949 Six bidders competed The work must be completed in 290 calendar days Col Anthony A Smith District Engineer notes that the project includes bituminous surface roads parking areas change house picnic facilities water well masonry and wood vault toilets surfing and related work.

Outstanding nurses recognized at Arkansas Association meeting

The Arkansas Nursing Home Association honored outstanding registered nurses at a special session at the American Hotel in Little Rock. Arkansas Prisons Ranked Among Top in Nation

Pine Bluff corrections official Tim Baltz said on KAIT that Arkansas prisons are in the nation’s top 10, despite an ongoing constitutional ruling. He cited overcrowding, rising crime, more women and youths in custody, and rehabilitation spending of over $1 million last year. He warned a purely lockup approach could cost about $40 million for new facilities.
