Arkadelphia Plant to Stay Open Under New Power Pact
Reynolds Metals Co and Arkansas Power and Light Co announced a power contract keeping Reynolds aluminum plant in Arkadelphia open through mid 1962 at 30 percent capacity. The plant, reduced to 20 percent since January, employs 150 to 200 workers versus a normal force of about 600. The deal sets rates near those under the previous compromise. Southwestern Power Administration not part of the pact. Arkansas history notes 1887 bauxite discovery and 1896 first 20 ton shipment.
