The Associated Press notes Arkansas will have cloudy mild conditions on Saturday with a chance of rain. The National Weather Service projects little or no rain in the extended outlook Sunday through Tuesday. Lows will be in the 30s to 40s with highs around the 60s. A large high pressure system maintains the cool pattern.
In Hope Arkansas the forecast calls for an eastward move of a high over the region with generally fair skies. A weak upper trough from the Rockies could bring a chance of rain Saturday, but moisture remains low. Subfreezing temperatures last night across the state with readings from 16 to 32 degrees. An experiment station report notes a high of 51 and a low of 25 with a killing frost in the 24 hours ending 7 a.m. Friday.
The report notes DuPont continues to advocate public programs discouraging marijuana use while framing his speech as the start of a process to distance Ford from Nixon’s opposition to drug law changes. Ford previously voiced caution about legalization, citing reconciliation goals and criminal law impacts. Aluminum alloy touted for new coins as cheaper and durable.

Ford rebuffed a gasoline tax increase amid massive auto industry layoffs. President Ford criticized Interior Secretary Morton for reviving the idea, saying no fuel tax hike is under consideration. GM and Chrysler announced further indefinite layoffs as auto sales sag.

About 60 000 computer ballots remain to be hand counted in Alaska’s disputed governor race, ordered by Gov. William A. Egan after Lt. Gov. H A Boucher refused without court order. Counting began in Juneau and should finish Friday.
Obituary notices report funeral services for Mrs W D Buchanan 89 in Prescott with burial in DeAnn cemetery and survivors including daughter Nina Work of Naples. Georgie Kulage 51 died in an auto accident in Hurst with funeral at Liberty Nazarene Church and burial in Liberty cemetery. her husband John, son John Edward, daughter Nancy, and mother Dora Hillery are listed as survivors. A third item notes Britain’s plan to turn garbage into a multi million pound asset, promoting separation of waste and reclamation of resources including old tin cans as raw materials.
