The Family Service Association of America studied 65 families seeking financial counseling and found a median disposable income after taxes of about $400 monthly with debts around $3,600. Families pay roughly $150 monthly, about 37 percent of income, while total American personal debt nears $95 billion with most paid on installments.
Mrs Monte Stevens told Lafayette County Sheriff Wade Tuomi that two men visited her home seeking work and stole about $200 from her purse after she left it unattended The incident occurred while the women were alone in the house and one man allegedly looked for a bag as the other fled with the purse indicating the amount involved.
The Agriculture Department cut its national rice harvest forecast to 89,425,000 hundredweight, lowering Arkansas yield to 4.6 pounds per acre from October estimates and reducing Arkansas total to 21,942,000 hundredweight. Purcell contends eligibility requires 10 years as an Arkansas resident prior to appointment and cites Davis registered to vote in Wyoming and signed a Wyoming oath. Davis, a Texarkana native, previously served with the FBI and was appointed by Governor Rockefeller despite Purcell’s objections. the court will decide.
Joe Purcell advised Gov Rockefeller to contact Republican and Democratic party officials in Mississippi County before setting a date for a special election to fill the vacancy caused by the death of state Rep LAH Autry. He outlined options for primary or general elections and noted independent candidates may seek entry. He urged timing be set with proper filing periods in mind.

Williams was sentenced to death for the killing of Mrs. Chomtias Dewees in Hamburg. Arkansas Supreme Court upheld the verdict in 1965.

Belgrade AP reports Yugoslav officials say Dr. Krunoslav Draganovic, 64, a Roman Catholic priest long viewed as the regime’s top foreign foe, has returned voluntarily and is under investigation for hostile propaganda. He says his return was not forced and that the country is democratized. He could face up to 12 years in prison if convicted. He had been abroad since 1943 as envoy to the Vatican for Croatia’s Nazi puppet regime and lived recently in Austria.
Rhodesian Prime Minister Ian Smith said after talks with Commonwealth Secretary George Thomson that differences may be narrowing and a settlement could be closer. Thomson warned sizable gaps remain as he left for Zambia. Smith noted Rhodesia declared independence two years ago to preserve white minority rule.
Milan court upholds eight month jail term for Renzo Cortina for printing and distributing an Italian translation of Fanny Hill. He is fined $80. The appellate court agrees the 16th century English novel is obscene.
