Hope woman follows an unusual hobby

Mrs Kenneth Petre, Emmet Arkansas taxidermist, pursues an unusual hobby turning dead animals into lifelike displays. She cures hides for months, mounts them on synthetic forms, adds eyes and teeth, and embellishes with cosmetics. Her work, often from road kills, ranges from deer to albino raccoon.

Farm City Day to Highlight Kiwanis Meeting

The Hope Kiwanis Club will host its annual Farm City Day on November 2 with Johnny Burke and the meeting committee in charge. Arkansas Poultry Federation's Jimmy Ligon will discuss Today's Farmer, and Gene Flames of Hot Springs National Park will be the guest speaker. The luncheon gathering starts at noon at the Town and Country restaurant.

The Associated Press reports a cold front moved through Arkansas bringing strong winds and brief heavy showers. Temperatures dropped behind the front as moisture lingered, but rainfall was light overall with only .14 of an inch recorded in the 24 hours ending 6 a.m. at Little Rock.

Gunman robs church during offertory in Shreveport area

A Baptist church near Shreveport was robbed during the Sunday service as a pistol wielding bandit demanded wallets at the collection plate.
