President Hoover, aboard the Presidential Special en route to the Midwest, compared today’s crisis to Lincoln era 1864 choosing to reelect Lincoln. He cited Gettysburg as turning the Civil War and said the current tide turned last winter, urging continued effort to restore prosperity and uphold Lincoln’s principles.
The free educational traveling motion picture show from the University of Arkansas Fruit and Truck Branch Experiment Station made its 25th Hempstead County showing in Centerville. Shows are set for Fulton Crank school house and additional towns through November with eight to ten more planned in Hempstead and other counties.

Mr and Mrs John Aaron of near Patmos were injured in a Thursday automobile accident near Stevens school house on Dooleys Ferry road. Mr Aaron suffered a broken leg and his wife received shoulder injuries. The cause of the wreck could not be learned.
The proposed act would create a governor’s cabinet with the governor and four top officers to advise on department affairs and meet monthly. It adds a four year term for the mine and agriculture commissioner and sets cabinet budget duties and frequent financial reports to guide state policy.
A farmer’s shotgun and $15 were blamed for a false street report in Hope about a Prescott bank robbery. Police stationed at the highway entrance questioned townsfolk, while reporters checked with Prescott banks and found no incident.
The cotton market rebounded after hitting its season low with a close of 6.00 to 6.25. Friday saw a 14 point gain, the December and May contracts closing 69 to 70 cents above Thursday. The day ranged from a Friday high of 6.19 to a low of 6.04 before settling at 6.14. Net changes show a 14 point gain and a 15.75 cent rise for the period.
Mrs. Lillian Hoeksera, 58, and her daughter Ida, 31, of Little Rock, were injured when the Wabash limited from Chicago to St. Louis derailed at a switch on entering St. Louis. The mother suffered three fractured ribs and body lacerations while the daughter was cut on the legs and arms.
Thieves failed to start J. S. Conway’s Buick eight sedan in his 509 South Fine street garage on Thursday night. A clock $8 and car tools were stolen along with a coat pocket contents and gloves. The garage was likely entered after midnight. a burning candle was found but no other clues.
The Highway Audit Commission questioned witnesses about two items. One concerns alleged double payment on Hazelwood Road Improvement District No. 2 debts. the other concerns a non advertised highway contract. Attorney E G Beauchamp was asked about the state paying about 18500 to retire all debts after taxes were levied in 1921, while delinquent taxes totaling about 29000 had been collected.
Senator Hiram Johnson predicted that Governor Roosevelt would carry California and all other Pacific Coast states. The Chicago report notes optimism for a broad Roosevelt victory across the western bloc.
The Literary Digest poll shows Roosevelt carrying 41 states with about 3 to 2 in popular votes, 3,064,497 ballots counted. Roosevelt 55.99 percent, Hoover 37.53, Thomas 4.84, predicting a 474 to 57 electoral split for Roosevelt and Hoover.
