The Associated Press reports a chance of rain across Arkansas Thursday. The National Weather Service forecasts showers or a thunderstorm mainly in the northern part of the state today and tonight. Rain probability ranges from 20 to 30 percent in most areas.
The Weather Service reports southerly winds bringing warmth and gulf moisture to Arkansas as a cold front nears, triggering shower activity in northern parts. Highs will be in the mid to upper 80s with overnight lows mostly in the upper 60s. Local temps include Pine Bluff 68 Eldorado 69 Texarkana 71 Fayetteville 69 Harrison 69 Jonesboro 69 Memphis 71 Little Rock 66 Fort Smith 65.
Pryor warned that if a runoff is needed the Faubus camp will learn they have just begun to fight while pledging to win in a runoff Faubus claimed this was the greatest race of his career and expected to beat Pryor The campaign featured charged exchanges at meetings with influential business figures some who previously supported Faubus switching to Pryor.
Howard County reports 37 of 37 boxes counted with U.S. Senate candidates J. W. Fulbright and Dale Bumpers receiving tallies. The precinct totals include figures 1566, 2872, 1644, and 2560, reflecting district results.
Joe Purcell of Benton easily captured the Democratic nomination for lieutenant governor and will face Leona Troxell of Rose Bud in November. He led early and widened his margin, winning about 59 percent to Brandon and Coffelt. Troxell led GOP with about 71 percent over Bearden.

In Little Rock Arkansas on election night Senator J W Fulbright conceded defeat to Governor Dale Bumpers in the Democratic primary for the U S Senate. Unofficial tallies showed Bumpers leading by about 65 percent as Fulbright urged supporters to persevere for peace and progress.
Oregon veteran Wayne Morse wins the Democratic nomination for the U S Senate in a four way race with 49.2 percent of the vote as opponent Jason Boe trails with 39.5 percent. Morse faces incumbent Republican Robert Packwood in the fall while Dale Bumpers wins in Arkansas to end J W Fulbright’s 30 year Senate career. Kentucky Democrat Wendell Ford also secures nomination to face Republican Marlow Cook in November.
