Dora McCaskill Wortham, 82, a lifelong Hope resident, died Saturday night in a local nursing home after a long illness. She was a Garrett Memorial Baptist Church member and Golden Age Club member. Survived by daughters Arlene Luck, Lola Padfield, and Grace Hallam. brother Gus McCaskill. sister Stella Eley. five grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Funeral at Garrett Memorial Baptist Church Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. Rev. Jim Sayers and Rev. Elbert O'Steen officiating. Burial in Friendship Cemetery. Oakcrest Funeral Home directing.
Mary M Bennett 44 died in a local hospital. Survived by sons Henry and Robert, daughters Birtie Mae and Ruth, nine grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. Funeral Tuesday at 10 am Herndon Funeral Home Chapel with Rev Jim Sayers officiating. Burial Union Cemetery Nevada County. Curtis Daugherty pastor of Cedar Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Hot Springs died. Wife Annie, stepchildren Willard Murphy and Dorothy Haggard, four half brothers, and Lou Richardson survive. Graveside services Tuesday at Ayers Cemetery. Herndon Funeral Home in charge of local arrangements. Texas Women’s Political Caucus reports women hold 64 percent of state elective offices. of 18,309 elected officials, 1,174 are women.
The Allied Poultry Industries Scholarship Committee plans to award 43 scholarships to University of Arkansas Arkansas State Southern State and Arkansas Tech students pursuing Agriculture Animal Sciences Pre Vet and possibly Home Economics. Scholarships based on need and aptitude funded by poultry product sales at the state fair in Little Rock. A June meeting will decide if economics students are included.
