Milburn captures NAIA hurdles title at Henderson State
Rod Milburn of Southern University won the 120-yard high hurdles at the NAIA track and field championships at Henderson State College, posting 13.6 seconds to win by six yards. Milburn, a Munich Olympic gold medalist, still eyed 12.8 for the event but said damp conditions and a lingering cold affected his performance. Jim Bean of Oregon College won the two-mile walk in 14:30.0, while Lynn Olson of Ferris State College became the first woman to compete in the NAIA championships, finishing 13th with 16:37.0 after a late surge. Bean’s 13.1 margin over Dale Paas of Oklahoma Christian sealed Bean’s first NAIA two-mile walk title and set the event record.
