In Little Rock on May 25, Cow Mowery of Hot Springs received a strong endorsement for president of the Arkansas Federal of Labor as rumors spread he might face opposition in the office.
Gov Sid Melath praised Mowery and Executive Secretary Zinn as labor leaders who benefit the state. He noted moves to oppose them and predicted a showdown on the convention floor for officer nominations. Kelton Call’s appointment as labor commissioner strengthens Mowery, while some delegates downplay opposition. The governor also thanked the AFD for its support and lauded the harmony between management and labor in Arkansas.
A solemn Capitol Hill funeral for a high official drew diplomats, military leaders, and dignitaries to white marble boxes. President Truman and Vice President Barkley attended as Generals Bradley and Vandenberg, Admiral Denfeld, and Admiral Thomas joined the Navy and Marine Corps brass in the amphitheater. The service, led by Bishop Conkling, stretched about 29 minutes before the coffin was interred on a sunlit hillside amid prayers and hymns.

The State Police chased the car after it sideswiped two vehicles, crashing near the Broadway bridge. Investigations into vehicle theft and origins continue as authorities place the suspects in custody.
