Fayetteville could gain a 55 mile four-lane highway from Van Buren to Fayetteville under a plan by Arkansas Highway Commission member J C Jake Patterson. He would start engineering studies after a minute order approval and aims two initial lanes with two more later, funded partly by federal aid for an interstate style road.

TEL AVIV AP Israeli leaders defied Egyptian President Sadat who urged Washington to force Israel to withdraw from all lands occupied in 1967. Foreign Minister Abba Eban told a Cairo rally that Sadat is wrong to think Israel can be squeezed into giving up vital interests. Sadat spoke in Cairo and said he would reopen the Suez Canal only if Israeli troops leave the east bank and Israel accepts a timetable to withdraw to pre 1967 borders.
