The Hi L ights tabloid debuted October 5 and has appeared twice monthly, totaling eight issues this year. Under sponsor Mrs. Martin and guidance from Miss Drake and Mrs. Perkins, it covered Glee Club, band, Library Club, FHA, FPA, National Honor Society, and class activities, plus editorials, fashion, gossip, and poetry. About five hundred students were named, with grades 5 through 12 featured in the year’s columns. Subscriptions reached 210 at midyear and 1,210 by year end, with out of town and service members receiving copies. Local merchants advertised, and The Hope Star helped publish the paper, praised in Arkansas High School Press Association notices for grade news, GI letters, Thanksgiving origin, Christmas features, and a noted fashion column.
