Plane crash at Little Rock kills officer in training flight

An Air Force B58 Hustler bomber crashed during a routine training landing at Little Rock Air Force Base. Capt. Steve Kichler Jr., 27, from Etberta Alabama, died in the fire while two other crew members were slightly injured.

Expansion of Migrant Labor Station at Hope Receives Grant

Governor Faubus announced a 158,874 grant under the Economic Opportunity Act to the Arkansas Employment Security Division to expand the Migrant Labor Station at Hope. The project adds eating pavilions, trailers, a barrack, and sanitary facilities to house migrant workers en route to and from work. the center will also support training and local placement efforts.

Tax Proposals by ALC Total 14.9 Million

Revenue from highway user tax increases recommended by the Legislative Council are estimated at 14 916 000 in a report for the council by the Highway Department and the Revenue Department The proposals will be presented to the legislature in a special session next week The money will fund an accelerated highway road and street construction program About 7 million of the new revenue would come from a proposed one cent per Continued on Page Two.

Local Youth Charged in Overdraft Scheme Across States

Anthony Ralph Pierce, 20, of Hope, is charged with giving an overdraft after cashing a $175 check to American Airlines drawn on Citizens National Bank of Hope. Pierce allegedly traveled from Hope to Little Rock Dallas Los Angeles Boston San Francisco, using bad checks and a department store card, then surrendered in Redwood City California saying he ran out of checks and enjoyed the trip. He reportedly told officers he planned the scheme and liked to travel.

Parker promoted at UNC Medical School in neuroscience

Dr. William P. Parker Jr., 35, of Hope Arkansas, rises from instructor to assistant professor at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine Chapel Hill effective July 1 He specializes in brain spinal cord and nerve surgery and earned his medical degree at Vanderbilt in 1956 He trained at NC Memorial Hospital and spent time at the National Research University School of Medicine studying anatomy His research covers cancer and living cell electron microscopy Also noted Arkansas Bankers Association elects Tom Ed Hays Jr Hope bank president as treasurer Other regional items include a hair show attendees and teachers, a May graduation at Texarkana College, an award to Edwina Whitman, and Scout Troop 91 camping trip plans.
