A proposed paving of state highway 3 from McNeil to Waldo was not yet programmed.
El Dorado names Frances Brewer, an 18 year old high school senior and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. L. F. Brewer, as Miss El Dorado and finalist for Miss Arkansas. She has brown hair and brown eyes and was chosen last night in the 1860 event.
Forrest City May 17 An F51 Mustang fighter plane caught fire near here last night. The pilot bailed out safely. National Guard Capt. Alvin F. Solari 29 of Memphis suffered only a sprained ankle. He was returning to Memphis after a training flight when oil pressure dropped and the engine caught fire as he tried to ride it down into an open field.
Millard Brown pleaded innocent to a first degree murder charge in Pnoeville on May 7. The shooting of 41 year old Williams, a house painter, occurred in Brown's yard May 8 after a quarrel over a fishing trip. Sheriff Bruce Crider quoted Brown claiming self defense as Williams advanced with a rifle.
Representative Ben Gathings of Arkansas says congressional authorization for the St. Francis and Cache river flood control projects is as important as any event in Eastern Arkansas. A bill awaiting presidential action would authorize funding and actions for the two rivers.
