Water and streets top Hope needs say Arkansas official

New trial ordered for Baysinger in ex-sheriff murder case

The Arkansas Supreme Court ordered a new trial for Robert A Baysinger convicted of capital felony murder in the slaying of former Searcy County Sheriff Billy Joe Holder on February 9 1976. The court found error in limitation of evidence about statements by Sheriff Loren Reeves and in voir dire after the jury foreman was found related to witnesses. Three others were charged previously.

Kaunda declares Zambia in a state of war with Rhodesia

President Kenneth D. Kaunda announced Zambia is in a state of war with neighboring Rhodesia. He placed the Zambian army on full alert and said Rhodesian aircraft crossing into Zambia would be shot on sight. Kaunda spoke after learning Rhodesia might strike guerrilla camps from Zambian bases used by fighters associated with ZAPU.
