Two Killed in Car Truck Collision at Arkansas Crossing

At the junction of Arkansas 149 and U.S. 40 a car collided head on with a jet fuel truck Tuesday, killing both drivers Haymnond Thompson 22 of Ridgewood New York and Billy H. Calvery 37 of Memphis Tennessee. The truck burned after the crash as traffic was rerouted for two hours. The accident occurred when Thompson tried to pass a truck and lost control. In Washington the Health Education and Welfare department approved a 19300 grant to the Arkansas Department of Mental Retardation.

Texarkana Blast Felt 30 Miles Away

An explosion at the Lone Star Arm Ammunition plant west of Texarkana was felt as far as Ashdown and Nashville Arkansas about 30 miles away. Employees were burning detonators at the burning grounds to destroy faulty ammo. No injuries reported. plant spokesmen would not comment on damage. Police received numerous calls as alarms rang in stores and rattled doors. A bright flash was reported moments before the blast.
