Yarbrough Loses Car in Indy Race at Indianapolis
Lee Roy Yarbrough survived a fiery crash at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway as his Eagle-Offenhauser car burned beyond repair. Owner Dan Gurney said they do not know the cause. Yarbrough, 32, from Columbia, S.C., suffered a small burn on his hand and was dazed after hitting the outside wall following the first turn. The fire was extinguished by track crews, marking the track’s first serious crash of the year amid three incidents among 34 drivers and 32 cars. Mike Mosley posted the day’s fastest lap before his oil line failure.
