New Oriental Art Wing Opens In San Francisco
Hisky trained specialists and many volunteers at the M H de Young Museum clean and restore a 5000 piece Oriental art collection donated by Avery Brundage. San Francisco voters approved a 2 725 000 bond to build a wing nearly doubling the museum size. The new exhibits cover 4000 years from neolithic times to today, with sections for China India Tibet Korea Annamese Khmer Siam Nepal and Persia. Brundage hopes the collection and local universities will foster appreciation of Oriental culture. San Francisco is described as the gateway to the Orient and the wing will be a bridge of knowledge through studies of these objects.
